Program details

Eligibility
Sponsorship may be given to existing teacher-recognition programs throughout the world. The qualification criteria outlined in the section below will be used to evaluate programs under consideration. Programs more likely to be supported are those that recognize outstanding teachers, administrators, principals or school-technology users at state, provincial, national and international levels. Individual teacher applicants and for-profit programs are not eligible.

Criteria
Consideration will be given to teacher-recognition programs that assess significant contributions by licensed classroom teachers to students, their profession, their educational institution and the larger community. Programs will be run annually with a formal competitive process in place for nominations, applications and evaluations. Applications must be reviewed by an independent panel of experts. Programs supported and recognized by state or national education authorities will be given preference. Strong consideration will be given to programs that also evaluate and reward teachers who have high technological proficiency and a great ability to apply technology in the classroom.

Awards
Classroom technology products and professional development opportunities are awarded to TEA recipients. 2009 TEA recipients will receive a technology package valued at US$15,925. Sponsored program finalists will receive a technology gift valued at US$1,250. See our sponsors for more information.

Term
The term of the TEA program is concurrent with the academic-year schedule (September to August). The 2009 TEA program will commence in September 2008 and conclude in August 2009

Limitations
US$1,517,775 is designated in product donations for the 2009 TEA program. US$4.8 million in technology has been donated from 2001 to 2008.

Application requirements
Applicants must submit a program sponsorship application that includes a written description of their teacher-recognition program. For further details, learn how to apply.

Application closing date
Applications will be accepted until January 31 for programs whose recipients will be named during the next academic year (September–August).

Notification
Within 15 days of receiving your application, the Foundation will respond to confirm receipt. Applications will be reviewed in a timely manner, and all applicants will be notified of the Foundation’s decision.

Inspiring others
Representatives from sponsored programs must be willing to provide the name and contact information of the recognized award recipient. The Foundation and its supporting sponsors may recognize the recipient’s achievements through their publications, such as the online TEA Yearbook.
