Ms. Duncan-Moore is a sixth grade teacher at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School
in Okotoks, Alberta. She has been teaching for 10 years and teaches most subject
areas.
What are your beliefs about teaching?
“Teaching is a responsibility and privilege. I feel responsible for ensuring
my students believe they can succeed and that they have many successful moments.”
How are your beliefs incorporated into your teaching style?
“Everyone in my class has the opportunity to teach and learn, be successful
and enjoy the delights of learning. Everyone takes responsibility for their
learning and shares their understandings in order to enhance their environment
and ensure that successful learning experiences are enjoyed by everyone.”
What is your greatest teaching accomplishment?
“Having a lasting and positive influence on students. They’ve come
back and told me what a difference I made in their lives.”
What is effective technology integration?
“Seamless integration. When I say to my students, “Write this down”
it is up to them to choose the best tool for the job, whether that be a pencil
and paper or their laptops.”
What are some benefits of using technology in your teaching?
“We can go places that are not normally accessible. Spontaneity is the
spice of a technology-based class. Technology in the classroom allows for greater
decision-making opportunities by students.”
What is the most important lesson every child should learn?
“You must be a risk-taker. There are often many ways to solve a problem
and you must find a way that is best for you.”
Inspirational thought
“You imagination is your only limitation. Working with technology changes
the climate of your classroom and is inspiring and invigorating.”
