The students here at Frank Hobbs School
really work hard!
I got to have a piece of cake that one student
brought in after she read the story "Hedgehog Bakes a Cake."
Students in the class are studying fairy
tales. They wrote stories from Goldilocks point of view and pretended
that I was Baby Bear. They were great stories.
This picture is what students here see outside
their classroom window. They often have deer jumping the neighbour's fence
which prompts a quiet dash to the window.
Here I am sitting on a stump in the new
native plant garden at the school. The students built part of the gravel
path with their Grade 3/4 buddy class. They will plant it next fall.
The class I'm visiting just learned about
trees and they found out that they have a Yew tree in their school yard.
This tree is very important because it has taxol which is used in cancer
treatments.
This is the schoolyard where the students
run and play sports. The large maple tree is a designated heritage tree.
This is an Arbutus tree which is also
in the area outside our classroom. These trees have unusual reddish
bark and are only found on the coast.
This is the wax museum in the inner harbour.
The children thought it would be fun to share this with the children in
London where they have one too.
Mellow is sitting on the sea monster at
Cadboro Bay park. There are several large structures to play on at the
park. There is a rumour that Cadboro Bay has a sea monster called Caddyosaurus
which is supposed to be like the Loch Ness monster.
This is Cadboro Bay Beach. This beach is 10 minutes walk from our school and many of the children play there so they wanted to share it.
The inner harbour of Victoria is a very busy working harbour. There are whale watching boats, little harbour ferries and the ferry that goes to Port Angeles, USA in the picture.
This is Christ Church Cathedral. When the Queen comes to Victoria she usually attends a service at this church.
This is the provincial Legislature building
where the Queen's representative presents the throne speech.
This is the Knowledge pole on the grounds of our Legislative Buildings.
