Addition or Not?
Students will apply their knowledge of arithmetic operations to problem solve
by providing an answer to the following question:
The ImagiNations teddy bear arrives on your doorstep and looks at the number
on your house. Your house number is 631. The teddy bears asks you if 6 plus
31 equals 631. Answer his question and explain your answer.
Creating a Problem
Students will add and subtract decimals concretely by creating a problem and
accompanying picture using the following information:
The ImagiNations teddy bear has 3 one-dollar coins (or bills), 2 quarters,
17 dimes, 6 nickels and 13 pennies. These items are for sale:
